Policy Change in Adherence to the 2023 Minimum Efficiency Standards

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has established minimum efficiency standards for air conditioning (AC) and heat pump (HP) equipment. The next set of energy efficiency increases will impact newly manufactured residential and commercial equipment and will take effect on January 1, 2023.

For split air conditioner systems in the Southeast and Southwest states, a regional standard supersedes the national requirements. Therefore, compliance for that product type is based on date of installation (compliance for all other product types is based on date of manufacture).

The DOE may impose stiff penalties for violators of the new regulations. For both contractors and distributors, it is unlawful to knowingly sell or install non-compliant equipment. Ultimately, it's the seller's responsibility to check and ensure that the equipment for sale complies with the regulations in the region in which the equipment will be installed.

East Coast Metal Distributors must closely monitor 2023 non-compliant air conditioner system products to ensure all product is installed in 2022 in accordance with DOE regulations. Therefore, we will institute the following product policies for 2023 non-compliant air conditioner products including indoor units solely rated with non-compliant air conditioners effective October 1, 2022.

  • No returns.
  • Maximum two-day inventory 'hold' for transactional orders.
  • Maximum five-day inventory 'hold' for project/job orders.

We have purchased additional product lines, brands, and product match ups that will continue to be sold as substitutions in the event that the non-compliant air conditioner products are not available. Please ask our team for recommendations.

Products With A 7-Day Return Policy

Effective March 23, 2020, returns for UV Lights, Air Cleaners, and Air Purifiers are accepted when an item is in the same condition as purchased within 7 calendar days of delivery of the items.

Products With A 30-Day Return Policy

Returns are accepted for products not listed in our 7-day return policy window, when an item is in the same condition as purchased within 30 calendar days of delivery of the items.

Returns on shipped orders may incur shipping costs, depending on the reason for the return. Please contact customer service prior to returning an item.

Minimum restocking fee of 15%. Contact the branch where you purchased the item for more information.

Returns are not accepted on special orders.
